cadburys tribute part 4: confectionary

hey guys this is coming early due to my dads birthday on Friday. so this is going be a lot earlier for some. but dont worry my schedule stands and i will have the christmas special up soon too!

Today we look at the chocolate gifts and such that are stand alone gifts in themselves. but thanks to the self put time constaights lack of wikipedia material on some, and searching the youtube for links to stuff in my christmas special, i will only talk about three of the five.

Roses
Named as thanks after the company that made the wrapper machine for cadburys, Rose Brothers, the family favourite appeared in 1938. small chocolates of different flavours the Australian Roses have its own flavours but this is list of the roses i grew up with. you all have our favorites, whether is the cremes (coffee orange strawberry) the caramel keg , fudge, and the nut filled ones

Milk tray
you'd remember from part 1 that Commerial milking was closed down in WW1, almost killing Cadburys, when it was restarted in 1915, it was seen as a turning point in the war with the soldier coming back. to celebrate in 1915, the whole concept of the chocolate box was invented as a gift for the returning soldiers.

HEROES
originally called miniutuare heroes, cadbury big take that to Nestles celebrations are minutuare of cadbuarys top bars. Dairy milk, bournville, fruit and nut, whole nut, twirl, time out, caramel, fudge and crunchie. there was a minuture dream before the bar was discontinued.

Well thats it for november and for Theme Month! next month will be christmas classics on bogger box office, and before my month long hiatus i will reveal the nominations of my end of year awards-the first ever Flippies! that'll be next week!

if you want to contact me over the holidays! i will be in touch at my youtube account ONLY! ITS OF COURSE!

cadburys tribute part 3:S-Y

(CLICK PREVIOUS POST TO READ A-P)
Snack
Now, i would be liable to give back my Irish passport if i didnt talk about snack. Not to be confused with Australian Snack, which alledgedly 8 flavours in1, snack are 3 bars
Pink-wafer
yellow-shortcake
purple-biscuit sandwich
that the English still refer to as a biscuit! Harry hill spoke on this and said "hold on thats a bar not a biscuit! if your mum said "have a biscuit" and gave you a twix, you wouldnt believe your luck!"

Spots and Stripes
a bar to promote the Olympics, or a device to bully fat people to do stupid things for a chocolate bar? YOU DECIDE!
After a long ad campaign in 2010 a 3 square white top bar was released. the selling point of this bar is that in the wrapper is a challenge for 2 people like jumping jacks or press-ups and the winner gets 2/3 of the bar. the creater says that it promote exercise. yeah you burn calories and you put them back on by eating the most fattening chocolate there is white topped milk chocolate! BULLSHIT!

Time out
after seeing how Twirl was so popular in ireland, British cadburys returned in kind in 1993 with by adding wafers to the mix and called it time out. in the early 2000s a comic strip was drawn underneath the bar.

Twirl
in 1991 Irish cadbury created the only chocolate in the line not created in britian to be sold worldwide.
basicly twirl is half a flake covered in chocolate.

Wispa
Heres a joke for you.

George micheal was seen the other day with an Aero Chunky up his arse!
it turned out to be a Careless Wispa.

as mentioned in the joke Wispa is a take that to Nestles Aero chunky, first appearing in 1983 the ad reunited the cast of the comedy, Dads army, its was discontinued in the late 90s until a Online survey put the bar back on our shelves. with Wispa gold, a (yes you guessed it!) caramel flavour. time will tell if wispacino a coffee flavour will return.

Yowie
From australia and on our shelves in britain for 2000, came Yowie, a take that to Kinder suprise. a chocolate that came with a toy that looked like an endangered animal was well as a preachy Green message. the chocolate sold well but ovivously there was issues with the bars name.

Seriously "YAOI?"

Well thats it! join me next week as i peer into the mixing bowl for part 4: confectionary!

CADBURYS: AN AMERICAN'S GUIDE TO A BRITISH AND IRISH INSTITIUTION PART 2: OTHER BARS A-P

HEY GUYS due to the size of the notes I compiled recently I'm extending the theme month by 1 week and spliting the a-z into to parts!

So here we go!

Astros
From south africa, comes the take that to m&ms crispy, arrived on our shores for all of 1999. but still made in its home country. its is the only non confection that came in a box.

Boost/star bar/moro
The bar known as moro only in ireland, boost can be best be described as mars mixed with Twix. Later they added snickers to the rip-off recipe, and called it Star bar while every other country called it boost peanut. in 2000 boost guarana simply known as boost in ireland added the heart-stopping ingredient to the nougat.

Buttons
Possibly the first piece of chocolate you ever had. round chocolate pieces. in the 80s the sweets were marketed to young childern with a nursery rhyme scene on the pack with the rhyme on the back of the pack. Comes in milk and white. Can kill small dogs if feed to them.

Caramel
Rebranded recently as Dairy milk caramel, Caramel is the only bar apart from Dairy milk and Twirl to be sold in all of cadburys teritories. Caramel is so popular that at some time any other bar will have caramel in it or a caramel flavour. its Popularity can be attributed to this ad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjQ5Yw72xta

Many people speculated who the voice of the cadbury bunny was i can tell you it was the actress Miriam Margoyles.
Thats right Nursey from Blackadder 2! and we had a trade up when the irish dub came in the 1990s as Former Miss Ireland Amanda Bryam was the voice!

Chomp
the best 10p/25c you'll ever spent. chomp uk is a small caramel bar. while australian chomp  appartently has an added biscuit layer.

Clusters
€2.50 bags of chocolate raisins, peanuts and truffles and you can get a bag of supermarket brand one of those for a quid!

Creme eggs
from midnight new years eves a clock in bourneville ticks away not only the previous year but to the arrival of the first batch of creme eggs to the shops. the Eggs are filled with Fondant, aerated cream-burn you mouth if you ate to much! the advertistising for the eggs are memberable from ads with matt lucas, and citreon creating 5 creme egg cars heres the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LDRDggpt8E
in 2007 a full time bar called creme egg: Twisted was born.

Curly wurly
Lattice shaped bar that gets smaller ever year. in 2000 a bag of fun-size bars called curly wurly squirrllies were released, yeah as if the bars werent small enough already.

Crunchie
called Violet crumble for some reason in australia. the bar is a honeycomb bar.spinoffs include biscuits and clusters.

Double decker
Created by accident in 79, double decker is a two layered bar top layer nougat on a layer of rice crispies.

Dream
A white chocolate Dairy milk now discontinued, i love white chocolate that i sad to see it go.

Flake
" a 99 cone" thats a icecream cone with a flake in it a piece of overlapped grating chocolate. flake dairy milk before it, became its own brand with milk, dipped, praline, dark and the contraversial Snow flake.

In 2003 British tv presenter Anthea Turner made a deal with flake and Ok magazine to advertise the bar...on her wedding photos! the magazine even gave out a free bar on the edition with the photos. David Frost called it the most vile photos he ever seen and snow flake like turners career crashed landed.

Freddo
Remember in harry potter they mentioned chocolate frogs? well it was a reference to cadburys second oldest bar. In 1913 a bar just for kids was invented in the shape of a frog. in 1992 the bar was changed to coinside with that GOD-AWFUL Taz-mania cartoon called Taz-bar. In 2002 they relaunched Freddo by adding a caramel flavour and a flash game.

Fudge
a bar of fudge. its just here from completeness sake.

mini eggs
eggs shaped smarties. only out for easter.

Picnic
A Take that to Nestle Lion bar with added raisins. mentioned for completeness sake.

Well thats it! Come back next week for S-Y to find out which bar...
  • Promotes the Olympics...and bullying?
  • rejoined the cast of Dad's army?
  • was created in ireland and took the world over?
  • and has the worst name you could give to a bar!
come and friend me at youtube here is the fixed link http://www.youtube.com/user/ThePathofenlightment

See you all next week!

Cadbury's: AN American's guide to a british and irish insitiution:part 1 :Dairy milk

hello everyone to Theme month!
this month with Kraft buying Cadbury's last year the internet is rife with rumour of it launching its products on American soil. so for the next 3 weeks i will take you to the candyshop with this sweet tribute!

Dairy milk
the signature bar in the cadbury line. Appearring in 1905 with a higher milk to chocalate ratio of any chocolate of that time.(its now galaxy that holds that honour!) hence the glass and a half slogan.During WWI, commerial milk production was shut down to provide milk for the troops, nearly destroying the brand.thankfully the brand came back stronger, with Fruit and nut in 1928 and whole nut in 34.

In 2007 the company launched Glass and a half studios, to produce their adverts.with this ad become the most watch video on youtube in 2008. if you haven't seen it yet, here is the link.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gjyrclbs

in its 100+ years run, dairy milk has spawned many bars in different shapes (flat and chunky) and sizes from its original size (8-square) to the indulgant (32-square) to the ridiculous (1 yard!)
and many flavours some only exist in markets in canada,oz,south africa and india so i'm only gonna talk about the flavour available to Ireland.

Fruit and nut-because of the ad in the 80s (which I couldnt find so no links!) people call an odd person a fruit and nutcase!
whole nut-like the above but with no raisins!
Turkish delight
Mint crisp
golden crisp-which is honeycomb more on that next week!
and caramello-which different from Caramel -more on that next week too!
and from australia but was only limited edition in ireland in 1999, 3 wishes -1/3 milk 1/3 dark and 1/3 white
and apparently there is 2 flavours called "coconut Rough" and Double choc which i havent tried. or seen.
but this is a nostalgic ride through the chocolate river.

there is also Bourneville the first ever bar made by them. it's dark chocolate. it was name after the town that the Cadbury Brothers, two Mormons that lived through Victorion London, founded for their workers.

join me next week for part 2 the A-Z OF CHOCOLATE!

if you have any question or just want to say hi, pop over to www.youtube/com/user/ThePathofenlightment
you can even stay for tea and biscuits!
