Symphonic Smackdown part 1: top 10 wwe themes.

As an art form, Music has permeated all human thought and existence, and why not? People have used it, not just to earn money, but to convey feelings and to change to mood in storytelling. it's no surprise that music is something that is enjoyed and debated on equal measure, but so are Wrestling and Video games.

This month on the Enlightened Page I will be celebrating the niche in the Venn diagram when Wrestling video games and Music all seemingly unconnected Mediae, interact.

First. a few comcensiouses
This is strictly entrance Music only, no ppv themes or music from any promos, so sadly no mention of Placebo's BRILLIANT Version of Running Up That Hill. Also no classical, public domain or ethnic music. on the other end, no songs by professional bands that appear on their own albums, not ones released by wwe.
so lets start the countdown with...
NUMBER 10
BRAY WYATT'S THEME "LIVE IN FEAR" (BROKEN AND IN LOVE) BY MARK CROZIER AND THE RELS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1r38RZnUfYE
Quickly bolting from nowhere, is the eerie and quickly memetic theme of the equally eerie and memetic Bray Wyatt. Just listen to that bassline and not think of a fog rolling in on a river. It just invokes unease. Speaking off unease just listen to Crozier's lyrics. he describing someone who is not of the norm. also the guitar solo badass in it's self combined with subtly with A Capella? Nice!

NUMBER 9
BIG VAN VADER'S WWE THEME "MASTODON" BY JIM JOHNSTON
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHlMSqG8Fmk
While Wyatt's theme is reserved, this is loud and bombastic. Johnston, wwe's Maestro, Had a cameo in the documentary beyond the mat, where he played an acoustic piece of this track. he said of the piece,
"It has a slow, heavy beat to it, like the footprints of a mastodon.
Infact that's the imagery I always had when hearing this theme! the shrieking chord is a roar from it's trunk, and the body of music is it's destructive march. I always thought that the part at 0:40 is the "camera" panning away to see the ruin it has created as a warning of "behold my power, fear my strength!"

NUMBER 8
KANE'S FIRST THEME "THE BURNING FLAME" BY JIM JOHNSTON
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6OxGXcdxCY
Before becoming an immobile slab of meat and the resident walking depush, In all of 1997 we were told of the imminent arrival of Kane, the hype reached it's climax when the first Hell in a Cell was taking place in that year's Survivor Series. When the lights went down, an Organ's Dirge scared everyone and if that didn't get the attention, the pyrotechnic flames which now have lost their shock value, did the job also.

NUMBER 7
GOBSHITE FROM MTV'S THEME "I CAME TO PLAY" BY DOWNSTAIT
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHezEyZ5pRk
You know that I hate Miz just as much as I hate Cena. But for a Poser who makes David Arquette's Reign as World Champion look like Bob Backlund's in comparsion, his theme fits his character, and the lyrics fit him as it's saying "I know I suck, but I'm Getting better!"

By the Time Miz does Gets into the Hall of Fame, the Earth will probably be destroyed by an asteroid or something!

NUMBER 6
JACK SWAGGER'S THEME "PATRIOT" BY JIM JOHNSTON
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G2wJUIa8So
Earlier this year Jack Swagger returned and when he did, he left the gawky Southerner demeanour and clean cut mannerisms at the wayside. This was a mature and more aggressive Swagger, something I believe was always in him. In addition to Growing the Beard(literally and Actually) he gained his theme. Any Military-style music should stir up the blood and this does the business.

NUMBER 5
DEMOLITION'S THEME BY JIM JOHNSTON AND RICK DERINGER
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aS1Xfb6ckE
To prove this month's point that music has some influence over other media, When wwe introduced "yet another Road Warriors-Rip-off" this theme accompanied them. The track was so popular that the fans wrote in, demanding that the teamed turned face just so they can hear the song when they won. and it worked the team held the tag title for 14 months, a record that still stands!

NUMBER 4
THAT OLD HACK HOGAN-"REAL AMERICAN" BY JIM JOHNSTON AND RICK DERINGER
The Survivor front-man strikes again, this time with the theme that defined an era! the Exposure that Hulk Hogan had turned a Square-Jawed Italian-American Jobber with a Limited Moveset into the Face of the company.
Sound Familiar?

NUMBER 3
FANDANGO-"CHACHALALA" BY JIM JOHNSTON
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H35--R8Jptg
This year the world went mad! Well, madder!
Last winter I groaned with disappointment when I read that SenileVince had created a new gimmick of a ball room dancer. and when it was announced that it was Johnny Curtis the man who won a title tag title shot that everyone forgot about, I facepalmed so hard i was bleeding! So when he bet Jericho in what i thought was a fluke, the next night on raw this happened.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsL8V-TDMFA
Everywhere on the internet everyone was fandangoing, they placed it at Old trafford, DJ'S made remixes, AVICII' Of all people made samples from it, and it became the #1 download in most of Europe! Not bad for a "joke",huh?

NUMBER 2
STONE COLD-"BROKEN GLASS" BY JIM JOHNSTON
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gwEzysrU_k
From the minute a crowd hears that sound effect all hell will break loose. After hearing that the rest is a bass beat that drops like the man has nothing but bad intentions, Frankly it could has done with the glass but then it wouldn't have solictited a huge reaction. But, like many have said on YouTube, When you hear the glass, It's your ass!

AND FINALLY...THIS...IS....
NUMBER 1!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_XOVh-cDtk
UNDERTAKER "THE DEATH MARCH"
Okay, I'm Breaking my own rules here, but this is not the "actual" deathmarch, it's a remix of it. For 23 years, the evergreen and completely youthful for his age 'taker has terrified his opponents for 2 Decades. When the 'taker comes down to this, and it's a surprise appearance, It's Brown Trousers for any heel in the ring. At ppvs, the true power of this tune comes into effect when the druids, and special effects like dry ice, Lightning and Flames come in. It become what the theme was for, a procession. For 23 years Taker has faced everyone who came and went through wwe's doors in that time. So in the end Much like death, a match with the Phenom became inevitable.

NEXT WEEK (I HOPE!)
